SPORTS THERAPY

Assessment, treatment and rehabilitation

Sports Therapy is not just about treating sports injuries. It combines assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to help people manage pain, recover from injury and return to the activities that matter to them.

As a Clinical Sports Therapist, my role is to assess musculoskeletal pain and injury, consider factors that may be contributing to the problem and develop an appropriate plan for recovery.

Depending on your needs, this may include hands-on treatment, exercise rehabilitation, strength and mobility work, movement advice, education and guidance around returning to activity.

MY APPROACH

Looking at the wider picture

Good rehabilitation starts with understanding what is happening and what you want to get back to.

Pain and injury do not always exist in isolation. Your activity, training, work, previous injuries and other factors can all be relevant when understanding a problem and planning rehabilitation.

That is why I combine clinical assessment with a person-centred approach. My aim is to explain the findings clearly, help you understand your condition and agree on practical next steps that are appropriate for you.

WIDER EXPERIENCE

More than 20 years working in healthcare

Alongside my Sports Therapy background, I bring more than 20 years of experience working in healthcare, including frontline and leadership roles within adult substance misuse services.

Working extensively in behaviour change strengthened my communication, active listening and person-centred approach. I have also completed additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centred Counselling and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. These are not services I provide within the clinic, but the experience continues to influence how I communicate, educate and support people through rehabilitation.

RUNNING & PERFORMANCE

A particular interest in running

Running is a particular area of professional interest. Alongside my clinical work at Sports Therapy One, I also run Run Fit Coach, where I provide online running coaching across the UK, alongside one-to-one running coaching and running biomechanics assessments in Coventry and Warwickshire. This combines my background in Sport and Exercise Therapy with my experience as an England Athletics Endurance Running Coach.

Stuart is very knowledgeable and has a kind and calm demeanour. After years of having problems with my knees and being sceptical that physio would help, I gave in and decided to give it a whirl. After my first set of exercises to try for 4 weeks, I found a noticeable difference. Not only does he have sports and physio knowledge, he also had knowledge of epilepsy and the medication I have to take. Which is super helpful and made me feel secure.

Stuart was excellent, really knows his stuff, really learned a lot and certainly put my mind at ease in regards to the injury I’d suffered. Shoulder is feeling better already. Would definitely recommend. 5* for a fellow Coventry fan too!
