Sports Therapy

Sports Therapy is an modern evidence based field of musculoskeletal healthcare. Specifically concerned with injury rehabilitation (and prevention) of an individual  or teams back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness. It’s a common myth that only athletes can benefit from being treated by a Sports Therapist. Sports Therapy utilises the principles of sport and exercise science incorporating physiological and pathological processes to help identify and treat injured patients with an aim of getting them back to full functional fitness.

A Sports Therapy treatment with Stuart Sahan consists of an initial comprehensive subjective and objective injury assessment. This helps really get to know you and forms the foundation of an evidence based rehabilitation programme. As part of the initial Sports Therapy session, a treatment plan is drawn up which can consist of hands on techniques like deep tissue sports massage, Muscle Energy Techniques (MET), joint mobilisation for either pain, improved range of motion or a combination of both. The hands on treatment is complemented further with an effective exercise prescription, appropriate to the stage of healing.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. Sports Massage has become increasingly popular among athletes and fitness enthusiasts in recent years. Unlike traditional massages, Sports Massage is specifically designed to help individuals recover from intense physical activity and prevent injuries. The primary goal of Sports Massage is to alleviate muscle tension, soreness, and inflammation caused by rigorous training and competition.

Some key benefits of regular Sports Massage is reduced pain, improved flexibility and range of motion. By using various deep tissue massage techniques, Sports Massage can help break up scar tissue and adhesions in muscles that limit mobility. This increased flexibility not only reduces the risk of injury during workouts but also enhances performance by allowing you to move more freely and efficiently.

Another advantage of Sports Massage is its ability to promote relaxation and reduce stress levels. High-intensity training or work can take a toll on both the body and mind, causing tension headaches, anxiety, and even depression in some cases. Having a regular Sports Massage can really help you feel great and improve your general health and wellbeing.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) RockBlades certified

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) has been around for century’s and has helped many people overcome painful musculoskeletal conditions. This has been attributed to the fact that the instruments offer a great way to scan the tissue, giving the therapist an accurate picture of what’s going on under the surface. The therapist is then able to target the fibrous scar tissue, initiating a healing response.

These tools are designed for fascial and soft tissue work, helping athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike to optimise their body’s performance & recovery process.

Designed with a unique combination of surgical grade stainless steel blades (blunt) and an ergonomic handle, Rockblades offer precise control while targeting specific areas of the body. They can be used for a range of techniques including scraping, cross-friction massage, trigger point release, and more. Using these tools can help break up scar tissue or adhesions in muscles which can lead to improved mobility as well as reduced pain.

Dry Cupping with Rock Pods

RockPods are the latest innovation in dry cupping therapy. These silicone cups use negative pressure to create a vacuum seal on the skin, which helps to increase circulation and promote healing. The unique design of RockPods allows for easy gliding over the skin, making it simple to target specific areas of the body leaving minimal therapeutic marking.

Some key benefits in using RockPods is their ability to alleviate pain and tension in muscles and joints. By targeting specific trigger points, these cups can help release built up tension and reduce inflammation. This makes RockPods an excellent tool for athletes or anyone suffering from chronic pain or injuries.

But it’s not just athletes who can benefit from dry cupping therapy with RockPods – this technique is also great for those looking to improve their overall health and wellness.

Rock Tape kinesiology Taping

Rock Tape is the best brand of kinesiology tape that has become increasingly popular among athletes and Sports Physiotherapists. Kinesiology taping involves applying thin, stretchy tape to the skin in order to provide support, reduce pain, aid a reduction in inflammation and provide neurosensory feedback. Rock Tape is unique because it is designed to mimic the elasticity of human skin, providing both comfort and durability.

One of the benefits of using Rock Tape is its ability to enhance athletic performance. By supporting weak or injured muscles and joints, the tape can improve range of motion and prevent further injury. Additionally, the stimulation provided by wearing Rock Tape can help increase blood flow with an increased heart rate and reduce muscle fatigue during exercise.

Rock Tape can also be used as a form of pain relief for individuals suffering from chronic conditions such as arthritis or fibromyalgia. The gentle pressure applied by the tape can help alleviate discomfort without causing irritation or inflammation to sensitive areas.

Rock Taping is a service provided free of charge with any of our clinical or mobile treatment services. Need some RockTape to take home? You can also purchase RockTape stock from our clinic.
